Journey, The
Review:     Arnold Sherman has based this plaintive arrangement on the two spirituals, "I Want Jesus to Walk with Me" and "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child." Open fifths, freely rung, set the mood before the melody enters in long note values. The texture then thickens up and the tempo takes on a steady beat. After a key change the melody is played in octaves and is considerably "bluesed" up with grace notes, triplet figures and syncopation. The piece then returns to the opening mood and ends on a quiet note.
