Passion Prophecy
This dramatic original work is a musical interpretation of the text from Isaiah 53:4-5, “Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.” A simple accompaniment of quarter-note chords lies under the plaintive yet lyrical melody, which grows and develops throughout the first section. The melody and the accompaniment become increasingly more complex and aggressive until a dissonant, fortissimo climax is reached, when random ringing with chimes delicately accompanies a return of the melody. The piece concludes calmly in the relative major key. Appropriate during Lent, or whenever this scripture passage is used (RCL, Year B, Proper 24), "Passion Prophecy" is primarily set in a minor (but ends in C Major) and is 76 measures.
