In the Bleak Midwinter
This creative marrying of two familiar favorite classical works creates a lovely title for use in both sacred and secular settings. The Pachelbel Canon in D pedal line features flowing LVs supporting alternating melody of the Canon and the Holst Cranham hymn tune rung on bells and handchimes in both treble and bass. Several creative sections include suspended treble bells ringing the Canon ‘pedal’ line while chimes in the bass play the Cranham melody. Of course the original Canon is written in D-major but this score begins in C-major, with a key change to the original “D” in the final section where the two tunes are fully integrated. This will be a wonderful addition to your group’s repertoire!
