Libertango
Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla is most famous for his "nuevo tango" style which incorporates elements of jazz with the traditional tango style. Many of his creations are written for small ensembles and often feature the bandoneon, violins, cello, guitar and more. The title is derived from libertad (liberty) and is thus combined with tango, Libertango. Piazzolla is reported as saying that Libertango (paraphrased) stands for the freedom allowed musicians where their limits are defined by their own capabilities. Hart has used his extensive knowledge and musicianship to faithfully score this for handbells using perfectly placed stopped sounds which accent the rhythm which supports the engaging melody and countermelody passages woven throughout. It exudes passion and should be played with sensitivity and nuance through all dynamic ranges. This is sure to be a 'must-have' title for your group. The addition of an optional accordion or synthesizer score will lend a realistic texture and sound to this amazing work!
