Second Suite for Bells
This three movement Suite encourages choirs to work on contrasting styles and tempos. There are no specific metronome markings given, allowing directors the freedom to interpret the movements in a manner best suited to their choir. Mallets are used in both the first and the last movements. In the "March", the bells are rung and malleted on the table, while in the "Danse", bells are rung and both malleted on the table and suspended. The second movement, "Largo", employs two tower swings, giving ringers an opportunity to focus on ringing musically. Care should be taken to practice the transitions between techniques slowly at first, then gradually increasing the tempo as ringers become more confident.
