"Noël", also known as "Noël X, Grand jeu et Duo", is the tenth piece from a collection of variations by Louis-Claude Daquin in which he improvised on traditional French Christmas songs. In those days and times, the word Noël had come to mean Christmas itself – though the word originally signified a round-dance in Old French and Middle English.
This "Noël" is notable in its simplicity which opens the musical door to a wide range of developments and variations. Maintaining the style and form of the "Noël", Fred has adroitly interwoven three other holiday favorites ("Angels We Have Heard on High", "Good King Wenceslas", and "Ding Dong Merrily On High") so seamlessly, it may take a moment to realize you are hearing a new melody!
