Song of the Crib
The 14th century German carol, Joseph lieber, Joseph mein is set here for 2-3 octaves of handbells with optional 5 chimes (C6-A6). An repeated accompaniment pattern is set up before the melody enters in the mid-range bells. The textures thickens out a bit later to full chord and some dramatic effect with mart lifts. A return to a softer, lighter mood has the handchimes on the upper bells on the melody. The ending softens to a pianissimo.
