I have a multi-faceted career, a fact that is sometimes thrilling, sometimes difficult. If I had chosen one path, my route might had been easier; as it is, my path is so much the richer for understanding these many musical endeavors.
Many years ago, a conversation about career with my friend Miles led him to ask, “well, if someone asks you what you are, what do you say? Composer? Conductor? Guitarist?
Many years later, I can say with confidence, “all of these things.”
I am currently the Minister of Music at Grace First Presbyterian Church in Long Beach, and I have taught at Coastline College since 1988. I have written choral music and orchestral music, film scores and commercial scores, music for handbells and music for brass bands. I have been the Artistic Director for professional choral ensembles, and sung under artistic directors. Ask me what feeds me more than anything else, I’d say writing songs and singing them for you on recordings.
