Biographical information for Kenneth Lowenberg

KENNETH LOWENBERG was born and raised in the Chicago area. He attended Northwestern University (B Mus Ed), the Univ. of Southern California (M.Mus in Composition), and the College of Church Musicians at Washington Cathedral (FCCM), and has earned his AAGO and FAGO degrees from the American Guild of Organists. He retired in August, 2006, after 38 years of service, from the position of Minister of Music at The Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC, and received the title Minister of Music, Emeritus. There he headed a large music program including the concert series, Chevy Chase Concerts. His Chevy Chase Handbell Ringers have enjoyed playing in the White House, the Kennedy Center, on local TV and National Public Radio, and his Chancel Choir has sung at Washington Cathedral. Ken’s choral, organ, and handbell compositions (some of which have been commissioned) are published by AGEHR, Selah, Hinshaw, Hope, Art Masters Studios, Inc., H.W. Gray/Belwin/Warner, Lorenz, MorningStar, and GIA. Ken has held local, regional, and national offices in the Presbyterian Association of Musicians and the American Guild of Organists. He has given organ recitals and led church music workshops in many venues in the Eastern and Central U. S. In Nov. 2005, Ken’s Chevy Chase Handbell Ringers performed at the InterFaith Concert to an audience of 1500 at Washington Cathedral, and the Massed Choir sang an inter-faith anthem he had composed: “God and Light.” His hobbies include travel, composing, cooking, swimming, gardening, and working out.
