Biographical information for Jonathan Kohrs

Assistant Professor of Music Conductor, Schola Cantorum Music 

Professor Kohrs teaches courses in the areas of church music and music history. He also conducts Schola Cantorum, the University’s choral ensemble that is devoted to leading music for campus chapel services and celebrating advanced singing. 

His music, including works for choir, handbells, organ, piano and instruments have been published by Augsburg Fortress Publishers, Concordia Publishing House and Liturgy Solutions. Currently, Professor Kohrs is pursing his doctorate in liturgical studies at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Ill.  He has been a member of Concordia’s faculty since 2001.

Currently, Professor Kohrs is minister of music at Grace Lutheran Church in Northbrook, Ill., serving as organist and director of choral, handbell and instrumental ensembles. Before coming to Concordia, he served for 15 years as parish musician and teacher at churches in Wisconsin and Illinois, in urban, suburban and rural settings. An active member of the Association for Lutheran Church Musicians (ACLM), he has coordinated and presented at church music workshops on the local and national level. Also, Professor Kohrs has contributed articles to ALCM’s newsletter, Grace Notes, and journal, Cross Accent.
