Review:
The author Carol Dare writes: "In several years of teaching beginning bell groups of all ages I found it was easy to teach rhythmic values while teaching the ringing stroke but more difficult to teach notes names to new ringers who were intent on following only their own two notes. Therefore, I taught note reading by setting aside a short period of time to use the materials I had developed when teaching music at the elementary school level. I could present a concept at the end of a ringing session and send a worksheet home with the new ringers. My experience has convinced me that these extensive drills focused on isolated concepts of the staff - spaces, lines, and stepwise motion - facilitate learning more efficiently than a few drills of words spelled on the staff."
