Review:
This piece begins and ends with striking fanfare motifs. "Selvaggio"
means "wildly" (church bell choirs might want to use the alternate title
"Exsultate") and the music lives up to this expectation of high energy
throughout. Even the haunting middle section maintains the forward
motion, with a contrasting use of optional handchimes. The opening
theme returns in an even more joyous fashion, working up to a rousing
finish. It is set in cut time at an allegro tempo in the key of f minor.
