Review:
In this vivacious and harmonically interesting 3-7 octave setting, Cynthia Dobrinski makes use of the theme and variations form with optional 3-6 octaves handchimes, flute, and tambourine adding extra color. Contrast abounds with martellatos, martellato lifts, vibratos, echoes, mallets, mallet rolls, brush damps, plucks, shakes, and a swing used in a variety of moods from vivace to a lyrical andante. Though the theme is in a minor key, the lyrical variation is in the parallel major, and after the minor main theme returns, a rousing coda takes the piece back to the major key for a joyful conclusion. Primarily scored in d minor, this arrangement is 139 measures.
