Review:
Perfect for Christmas pageants and services, "At the Manger" will enhance the timeless recounting of the Nativity story. Each character (Jesus, Mary, The Star, etc.) has a short musical signature that is played whenever the narrator cues it. Written for 2-3 octaves, this piece is easily learned by 2 to 21 or more non-ringers and novices. Each part can be taught by rote or rhythmic reminders on a set-up sheet. Detailed instructions, charts, narration, assignment chart, and character sheets are all included and are ALL reproducible.
Adding actors as the story unfolds; using placards, stage props or sound effects; and even having the actors speak some of the lines will add to the charm of this presentation. A Bonus score suggests how your ringers (joined by other ringers perhaps) might accompany the congregation as they sing "Silent Night", which is especially effective with a candlelight closing. Quickly worked up and confidently presented, "At the Manger" could become a cherished seasonal tradition for your newest ringers.
