Review:
Mysterious and majestic, this arrangement of the lovely Welsh tune (ABERYSTWYTH, Joseph Parry 1876) features a solo line question and an obbligato answer, then moves to a more fully scored section. An exceptionally versatile score, it is offered in 2 settings to adapt to the number of available ringers. “A” is for 2 octaves with optional C4-F4 and even G3-B3) and “B” is for 3 to 5 octaves. Ringing the bass notes on chimes works very well, as the audio clip demonstrates. At 2 minutes in length this piece is perfect for a short prelude or any brief moment during Advent worship – as well as for a short respite in holiday, concert, festival and school settings.
