Review:
The tale of an epic journey, bold and heroic, this well-crafted, solid Level 3 piece for 3-7 octaves features many interwoven themes and tabled mallets as the saga unfolds. “Fear No Evil” is a strong musical statement for worship, concert, classroom or festival – and can also serve as a heart-felt tribute, serious but ever-hopeful, for the valiant Ukrainians and honoring all people living under duress. While this piece stands on its own as a strong performance piece, it is also the capstone composition project of a creative 8th grade handbell class at Redeemer Classical School. Many of the students have rung (and composed) since 4th/5th grade (this same group’s first composition project was Failing Light RE3020.) This time, because of their increased experience, Kath applied a completely different strategy and allowed them to devise their own themes first, with no limits, smoothing out transitions and filling in accompanying patterns. Part of the Class ring and True Music Series from ring True. Keys of f minor and d minor; 62 measures, 2:30 performance time.
