Review:
This is the first release in a new Bronze and Ebony Series – written for handbell quartet with piano accompaniment. This series was developed during the Covid shutdown to allow smaller groups to safely ring from separate tables and not share bells. The title Hope was chosen since people were dealing with social isolation and a vaccine had not yet been developed. This is an extraordinarily beautiful work with a flowing and engaging melody featured in both bells and piano. The development flows from lyrical to more rhythmic and dynamic sections, incorporating much expression but always returning to the initial, engaging, and ethereal motif. The piano accompaniment is exceptionally lovely. This is a must-have piece for quartets to include in their repertoire for any worship or secular occasion.
