Review:
James Bawden has combined three hymn favorites, Simple Gifts, Be Still My Soul, Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken, into a lovely medley. It begins in G major and ends in F major. The intro and segues between the hymns are well written and flow nicely, ultimately recapping the flavor of each hymn in the dynamic ending. Techniques include Ring, LV, TD or mallet, RT and mart, as well as vibrato on some of the sustained handchimes notes. This is a very nice medley that will engage the audience – and it is sure to become an oft-used addition to your group’s repertoire.
