When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

Review:

Arranger Arnold Sherman incorporates the hymn tune NEAR THE CROSS into this arrangement as introductory and transition material around the main tune, HAMBURG. The first setting of the theme is simple, but powerful; then a transition leads into a D Minor rendering of the tune, where the melody is in the bass bells and flowing accompaniment in the treble register. The last section is full and triumphant.
