Review:
"Lessons and Carols" services began in England in 1880. The heart of the service is the retelling of the Christian story of faith from the fall of Adam to the coming of the Word Incarnate. Hal Hopson has successfully brought together voices, instruments and congregation for a modern rendition of that service. The handbells ring a good part of the service, and each selection uses only treble clef scoring. Performance notes are given to help the director custom-make this experience for his choirs and congregation. A
CD is available and is perhaps the best way to begin acquaintance with this work.
