Written in f minor, this piece is 84 measures.

Commissioned in memory of 21 lives lost on board the TWA flight 800 in July of 1996, this beloved Philip Bliss hymn tune, VILLE DU HAVRE, has a score for optional 3 octaves of chimes, violin or flute. On July 21, 1996 an angle cloud appeared above the bereaved community along with 21 smaller clouds and two rainbows.

The ethereal opening and closing motifs, played on randomly-malleted suspended bells, suggest the mystery surrounding the beginning and ending of life. The music of the stanzas depicts the various stages of life as described in the hymn text.
