Review:
Mallets and echoes - a contrast in staccato and legato. "Hornpipe & Dance" features both techniques in 3 score versions that accommodate 6 ringers on 12 bells up to a full 5-octave ensemble. Three scores offer easier reading for different ranges. This solid Level 1 piece includes all ringers throughout the piece, with a quarter note section using all mallets and a contrasting section with a single-line melody and echoed chords. Ample time is given to put down and pick up mallets. In ringTrue's "Class ring" pedagogical series, "Hornpipe and Dance" is a fine example of a piece that carefully teaches techniques and theory in class or practice while producing a worthy performance piece, making rehearsal-time doubly well-spent. Two short versions of Ode to Joy, a favorite of ringers everywhere, are included as a bonus. Both pieces area appropriate for school, concert, festival and worship.
