Review:
A delight to ring and listen to, “Plaisir D’Amour” (The Pleasure of Love/My God Loves Me), is based on a French love song (c. 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini). Your audiences will recognize it as the inspiration for Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” (c.1961) - as well as for the 20th c. hymn “My God Loves Me.” And every ringer will enjoy mastering the easy 8th notes in 6/8 time while playing this L2 3 or 5 oct., smooth, soulful tune. A Unison Exercise page quickly and carefully teaches the logistics of counting and playing groups of three beamed melodic 8th notes and of dotted quarter notes in 6/8 time. (You may use any counting method you wish.) It also covers navigation symbols used (repeats, 1st ending, Coll., etc.). Easy chords are included for ukulele or guitar to accompany the ringers. The 3-octave (+5 oct. treble) two-page score is very easy to read (no pages turns!), and a separate one-page bass score for the lower 5th-octave (covering C3-C5) is included. No bells are shared between positions. One or two accidentals (G#s) may be reassigned for easier ringing.
A Bonus Piece! The bold, original one-page composition “Praise Triumphant” (L2 for 3 or 5 oct.): employs easy 8th notes in 4/4 time.
