This piece begins and ends with striking fanfare motifs. "Selvaggio" means "wildly" (church bell choirs might want to use the alternate title "Exsultate") and the music lives up to this expectation of high energy throughout. Even the haunting middle section maintains the forward motion, with a contrasting use of optional handchimes. The opening theme returns in an even more joyous fashion, working up to a rousing finish.
