The famous rhythmic motive associated with "Hallelujah!" from G.F. Handel's Hallelujah! Chorus" is found scattered throughout this fun setting of the traditional spiritual. There's lots of articulations (marts, mallets, echo, etc.) and even the infamous grand pause (you know, the one where somebody always sings ha-le-lu-jah in the rest!) with the instructions "FREEZE FOR 3 BEATS!"

The composer of this original work writes "Song of Peace is a reflection of the way the world has treated peace almost from the beginning of time." The tune DONA NOBIS PACEM is given a rather harsh, angular treatment, but out of the cacophony comes  a much more harmonious setting, signifying our eternal hope that peace will come one day for all of humankind.

The hymn tune VICTORY is the basis of this arrangement for 3-5 octaves. The character marking is "Triumphantly, quarter = 120." After a big fanfare the music settles into a comfortable rhythm and presents the melody in a straightforward manner. The change to the final BROAD section finds the texture big and bold and drives to a strong finish in measure 80.
