Series Title: Janus - AGEHR Publishing

Song Title Composer(s) Arranger(s) Octaves
All Glorious Above Lyons Gramann, F. 3-7
Review: The hymn tune "O Worship the King" (LYONS) is the basis of this challenging setting originally commissioned by the Raleigh Ringers and catalogued in the "Janus" Series of AGEHR Publishing.
  Antiphonal Alleluias Morris, H. 5-7
Review: The "Janus" Series of AGEHR publishing was established to give Bronze (difficult) level choirs challenging repertoire. This original composition (winner of the 1998 Donald E. Allured Original Composition Award) by Hart Morris fits the bill!
In Praise of Life Morris, H. 3-5
Review: The "Janus" Series from AGEHR publishing is for advanced ensembles. This original composition was commissioned in memory of a loved one and is based on Psalm 37:37. The music, like life, is filled with varying fabric and moods. Flute and Clarinet are required for the piece and begin the work by simply stating the melody in 2 parts.
Marche from the Nutcracker Suite Tchaikovsky, P. Griffin, W. 5-7
Review: Tchaikovsky's beloved composition is so arranged that it merits cataloging in the AGEHR Publishing "Janus" Series for more challenging music. You can imagine the techniques and scoring that goes on to achieve all the orchestral effects on bells. Worth working on for Christmas but start early!
Reflections on the Plains Moklebust, C. 3-5
Review: This addition to the challenging "Janus" Series is an original work that describes the landscape and life in Oklahoma, including a musical tribute to the victims and families of the April 19, 1995 bombing in Oklahoma City.
  Requiem Payn, W. 4-5
Review: "Requiem" is a commissioned work included in the "Janus" Series from AGEHR written for handbells with Oboe, flute and optional percussion instruments. The work is basically divided into three sections.
Spring Sea Miyagi, Michio Arai, Hirotaka 4-6
Review: "Spring Sea" is part of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers Janus Series for special, more complex, or unique handbell literature. The 4-6 octaves of handbells and 4 octaves of handchimes and flute present this Japanese folk-like song.
  Time to Dance, A Morris, H. 5-6
Review: Based on Ecclesiastes 3:1,4: For everything there is a season...a time to mourn and a time to dance, Hart Morris skill as an original composer shines through in this contribution to the "Janus" Series from the AGEHR. Driving energy and, of course, dancing rhythms characterizes all 86 measures of the work. The tempo marking calls for quarter = 108-120.
Trial and Triumph Keller, M. 5-7
Review: Trial: driving rhythms, marcato attack, forte dynamics, harmonic changes. Triumph: fully-scored ringing, triumphant harmonies, pulsing to the end, joyful rhythms. Challenging and rewarding. Part of the "Janus" Series from the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR).
Valse des Fleurs (Waltz of the Flowers) Tchaikovsky, P. Yoshida, T. 5-6
Review: "Valse des Fleurs" is a difficult transcription of the famous Tchaikovsky music. Bells are primary instrument but sections suggest chiming instruments be used with the bells.
