A bell-peal figure opens and continues through this light and airy rendition of the standard hymn. Various techniques, such as mallets, LV, and thumb damps, are scored to add color. A later passage finds the melody doubled in the lower chimes with an undulating accompaniment motif above. Arranged in C Major, this spirited piece is 76 measures.
 
Ash Grove:  Traditional Welsh Melody,Morris, Hart,BE
This lovely Welsh melody can also be titled according to two hymn texts - "The Master Hath Come" and "Let All Things Now Living." The setting, replete with syncopated rhythms, offbeat accents, and staccato techniques, definitely mirrors the percussion skills and energetic personality of its arranger - Hart Morris. At quarter = 120, it is a good work out; but ringers should enjoy the fun.
 
Be Exalted O God:  McFadden, Jane,,JH
"Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let you glory be over the earth!" This verse from Psalm 57 is the inspiration for this original composition for bells and optional handchimes.

This setting of the hymn "Be Still, My Soul" captures both the tenderness and power of the hymn text and tune.

This ethereal setting of the familiar praise song by Marie Barnett incorporates the hymn "Breathe on Me, Breath of God". The handbell part stands alone or can serve as the accompaniment to the choral setting.

This short but artfully crafted 53-measure medley utilizes tunes associated with the hymns "It Is Well With My Soul" and "Shall We Gather at the River?"

"Thanksgiving and Remembrance" is the subtitle for this original work, which takes its inspiration from Philippians 1:3. The melody is both plaintive and in minor mode evoking the emotions of a farewell. An optional part for flute or C instrument is included in the back of the folio.

Your ringers are sure to ask to play this one again and again! Roderick Davenport's original piece makes a great opener or encore for concert and would most likely be a fun festival selection!

Using EASTER HYMN and MIT FREUDEN ZART, here's a great piece for the Easter season.

Rarely does a handbell score cover 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 octaves, but this setting of Antonio Soler's classic work does just that (although much of it stays within the 3 - 4 octave range). A majestic yet sometimes almost pompous piece, this one will be as much fun to ring as it will be to work out the 16th note patterns.
 
Festive Peal on Hymn to Joy:  Beethoven,Ryan, Michael,LC
Using all bells or chimes in the 2- or 3-octave set, Beethoven's sturdy tune is cast in G, C and A-flat major, with bell changes eased in comfortably before each new key.

"Great Is Thy Faithfulness", the timeless hymn by Thomas Chisholm and William Runyan, is given a fresh treatment in this stunning arrangement for 3, 4 or 5 octave handbells with optional 2 octave handchimes by Andrea Handley.

Optional congas and a shaker add their spice to this rendition of a taditional Tanzanian melody. Staccato technique along with syncopated rhythmic patterns add to the fun all the way to the ending 94th measure.

After an energetic introduction, the melody of this familiar Hebrew folk song appears in different bell ranges, always accompanied by moving sixteenth-note patterns.

Truly a unique work, this piece features Robert Lowry's rhythmic hymn tune supported in part by a "singing bell" technique, which uses round sticks rubbed around the outer rim of the bell, for a truly ethereal sound. Published by the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers for the 13th International Handbell Symposium in Orlando, Florida, this selection is based on the hymn tune ST. CLEMENT and represented the Australian contingent at the symposium.

For all of those 4 and 5 octave young ringers' choirs who have a difficult time finding fun, playable but interesting music in that octave range your search is over! Full texture, lots of fun techniques and a moderate tempo combine to make this piece a winner. Of course, more skilled choir would enjoy "ringing the walls down" as well!
