"I will arise and go to Jesus" is a portion of the text that accompanies the traditional American melody "Come Ye Sinners Poor and Needy" on which this arrangement is based. A dancing, two-measure motif sets up the entrance of the melody in measure 5. The mood shifts to open, airy texture that swaps the melody between the upper and lower registers.

This festive original composition was commissioned for a festive occasion-the 25th anniversary of a handbell choir. All the elements one comes to expect from Dobrinski's writing are included: solid bell writing, different sections of musical texture, tempo and meter changes, and lots of special techniques.

When sung, Henry Smith's comtemporary praise chorus lilts along in smooth and sustained tones. However, in this setting, the arranger spices up and energizes the mood with a syncopated, driving accompaniment from the get go. "I will rejoice, for He has made me glad", is part of the text of Leona Von Brethorst's contemporary Christian praise chorus that has become a standard. Bill Ingram brings out the joyful mood of the chorus through use of various techniques, sprightly rhythms and ringer involvement.

This Bible-story narrative is told by Joshua with a little help from his army (the handbell choir)! Narration alternates with musical comments on the dramatic action.

Joyful indeed! Dobrinski's relentless motion is countered by a middle section totally contrasting in time, key and mood. Then, it's off again for a selection sure to please on many a festive occasion.

Are you looking for a simple, but effective bell piece for Easter? This combination of the Easter tunes "Hymn to Joy", "Llanfair", and "St. Kevin" is worth looking into. The rhythms are straightforward with the occasional 16th note or dotted rhythm thrown in for interest. The melody appears in both the upper and lower registers.
 
King of Glory God of Grace:  Various,Stephenson, V.,LC
12 optional handchimes, ranging from F5 to C7, add interest to Gosterwood and CWM Rhondda, the hymn tunes on which this arrangement are based. The fanfare introduction features the sparkle of shakes and big chords. These tunes are presented with chordal accompaniment in both quarter and eighth notes, some with mallets on tabled bells. A strong, triumphant ending complements the opening material.
 
Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace:  McChesney, Kevin, ,JH
Dedicated to the victims of the shooting at Columbine High School and other acts of senseless violence, this original composition's mood is based upon the 13th-century prayer of St. Francis of Assisi.

The contemporary praise chorus by Clinton Utterbach is here set for bells in a lively manner with a tempo of quarter note=120. Varying musical fabrics improve the skills of ringers through syncopation, echo technique, and staccato markings. The melody occurs in both treble and bass ranges. 84 measures in length.

Flowing, eighth-note broken-chords form the basis for most of the accompaniment in this original composition commissioned by The Raleigh Ringers. Espressivo melody in minor shades weaves in and out of the accompaniment pattern, sometimes opting for chimes sometimes doubled for intensity.

"Sing We Now of Christmas" is the alternate title to this tune. However, the energetic nature of this entire work suggests the vigorous growth of Spring, when the grass turns green. This energy is set up with a driving bass clef-rhythm pattern played by mallets on tabled bells.

This arrangement for ahndbells and 3 octaves of chimes is a transcription of Joel Raney's piano setting based on the tunes "The Old Rugged Cross", "Hudson", and "Hamburg". Joel serves as "Artist in Residence" at the First Presbyterian Church of River Forest, Illinois, and plays concerts of his hymn arrangements around the country.

This newer congregational song is arranged for bells and optional flute or violin. Reflective tempos, changing harmonies, and even an optional passage (Ossia) all serve to enhance the music. The verses and chorus are marked for reference. Mallets are the predominant technique called for, although others are scattered through the score.

Reflective but compelling, Will L. Thompson's hymn is here set to emphasize both characteristics. Fully scored to involve all ringers, but light and open spacing to preserve the meditative mood. Some bell changes will need careful rehearsal as well as dynamic changes. 87 measures.

"O Zion Haste & I Love to Tell the Story" aret the two hymns upon which this arrangement, comissioned for a new sanctuary dedication, are based. "Energetic", "More leisurely", and "With grandeur" are tempo and character markings with in the three sections of the work.

"Come, Christians, Join to Sing," is the most used text for this hymn-tune. Here it is presented in a big, chordal setting, a staccato accompaniment section, a slow, flowing section which utilizes the echo technique and then back to the beginning texture.

Handchimes or handbells are both suitable to ring this American folk tune arrangement with equal success. The LV technique is used extensively to achieve smoothness and gyro effect is scored for the final three chords.

Optional flute or C instrument adds flavor to this setting of the contemporary Christian tune by Dennis Jernigan. Cue notes are provided for the bells to ring th flute part if the instrumentalist is unavailable.
