The folk tune "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" is presented as a set of variations in the quasi-style of several deceased composers, who will certainly be "rolling in their graves" anytime this is played! It is sure to be a hilarious, great crowd pleaser!

Inspired by the iron and steel factories in the Russian city of Cherepovets, this 2005 Bells of the Sound Composition Contest Winner evokes a 1960s-era Soviet-bloc industrial sound.

Dance of the Duchesses

This short piece was written for the first act of Prokofiev's ballet Romeo & Juliet. It's known as Dance of the Duchesses, or sometimes Dance of the Knights. Either way, it's a stately dance done by the nobles at the Capulet party where Romeo sneaks in and first meets Juliet.

In Rimsky-Korsakov's 1881 opera "The Snow Maiden" acrobats dance to entertain the Russian Tsar. This arrangement has been adapted from the composer's full orchestral score.

This piece was chosen as the first-place winner of the Bells of the Sound (Seattle, WA) "Road Trip" composition contest in 2003. Sadly, Dante's View itself was destroyed by wildfires in Griffith Park in 2007. But fond memories of this wonderful spot will live on through the music of this composition.

This frolic is a converation between 5 octaves of handbells and organ originally by Eugene Gigout and transcribed by Paul Kinney. The piece employs lots of syncopation, chromatic ringing, and articulations. There are performance notes that give instruction on how to perform this work with two bell choirs in lieu of an organ.

Greensleeves

This delightful setting of the old English folk tune exquisitely blends the complementary tonal colors of handbells, cello, and piano as equal partners, with a few harmonic and rhythmic surprises. The cello part is not optional, but could be played by oboe, English horn, or other C instrument.

"And now for something completely different..." Sometimes you wonder just how something would sound in a style totally different from its original form. For instance, in the 1970s Walter Murphy took one of the classical greats to the disco world and came up with "A Fifth of Beethoven". It turns out that the Christmas carol "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" falls into the jazz idiom wonderfully.
